Learn

Start where you are. Move at your own pace.

Four stages, in order. Nothing assumes prior knowledge, nothing is dumbed down, and every lesson is cross-linked from the articles that use the concept — so you never have to leave the site to understand a sentence.

01Start hereAbout 35 minutes

The vocabulary everything else assumes you already have.

In production: How markets actually work · Understanding an earnings report · ETFs · Dividends. We publish a lesson when it is good, not to fill a curriculum.

02Understand companiesAbout 30 minutes

How to read what a business is actually doing.

In production: The income statement · The balance sheet · The cash flow statement · Margins · Debt and leverage · Valuation methods. We publish a lesson when it is good, not to fill a curriculum.

03Understand marketsAbout 25 minutes

The machinery that sets the price of everything else.

In production: Treasury yields and the curve · How the Fed actually works · Recessions · Market cycles. We publish a lesson when it is good, not to fill a curriculum.

04Become a better investorAbout 20 minutes

The part that decides your outcome more than stock selection does.

In production: Diversification · Position sizing · Loss aversion and FOMO · Valuation discipline · Thinking in decades. We publish a lesson when it is good, not to fill a curriculum.

How we teach

Worked examples, real numbers

Every calculation uses figures published by a company or a statistical agency, with the arithmetic shown. No invented illustrations.

Assumptions stated

Where a lesson simplifies — a constant return, a flat inflation rate — it says so on the same line, not in a footnote.

Linked from the news

When an article mentions free cash flow, the phrase links here. Reading the news should make you better at reading the news.

The Signal · Newsletter

The market briefing worth opening.

Five minutes, every weekday at 6:30am ET. What happened, why it matters, and the numbers behind it — written by the same people who write the site, not a summary robot.

Sign-ups are not open yet. There is no mailing list behind this form, so rather than take an address we cannot send anything to, we have turned it off until there is. When it opens, the privacy policy will say which provider receives addresses before the first one is collected.

No spam, no affiliate junk, one-click unsubscribe. We will never sell subscriber data. Read the standards that apply to the newsletter.
